Hosted at The Shed during Unfinished Live, The Project Liberty Experience in collaboration with Refik Anadol is a provocative and fully immersive environment that actualizes a society where people hold the power and control over their personal data. Visitors are invited to step into this future-forward spectacular to explore and interact with the technologies, art, organizations, and ideas that are actively working together to shape a better future.
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Join us September 22-24 at The Shed in NYC for The Project Liberty Experience at Unfinished Live 2022
Project Liberty creates a new civic architecture for the digital world that returns the ownership and control of personal data to individuals, embeds ethical values into technology, and expands economic opportunities for web users and developers alike. The initiative accelerates the world’s transition to an open, inclusive data economy that puts citizens in control — a future in which all people, not just the few, directly benefit from their participation and contribution. The success of this work depends on many people and organizations actively working together to shape a better future.

Workshop // A Letter of Adieu to Social Networks
How can we make sense of our fraught relationship with social media? Brought to you by La Plateforme, a school of digital and new technologies based in Marseille, France, this workshop invites participants to write break-up letters to their mainstream social media of choice. They will outline aspects that made them fall in love once, followed by reasons and moments for which they believe the relationship is coming to an end. We will discuss the letters in a group, try to guess which social network is being addressed, and send them out. Click here to learn more.
Workshop // How Can We Create Public Immunity to Disinformation?
In order to mitigate the uptick of disinformation, can we get inside the minds of those who spread it? Meet Daiva Venckus of Project Liberty, who worked for the Lithuanian government during the revolution days; and Vytas Jankauskas of La Plateforme tech school in Marseille, a media designer born three days after the revolution. They will lead an engaging and interactive discussion about communication technologies, how formal and informal networks organize themselves, and what that means for our society at large. Workshop // Tracking U.S. elections through TikTok
TikTok, with 50 million daily users in the U.S., has become the front page of the Internet, increasingly informing how we live our lives, how we think about community and, potentially, whether and how we vote. Researchers and journalists lack access to information about how video hosting services surface and share election-related information and the veracity of what they share. Join the Digital Public Library of America for a pop-up discussion led by Jennifer 8. Lee about how we can better understand the state of American democracy through TikTok. Click here to learn more.
